Dr. Gian S. Pagnucci is Distinguished University Professor and Chair of the Department of English at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). He has served as Chair for 13 years, is Co-Chair of IUP’s Council of Chairs, and serves on IUP’s Academic Affairs Committee and the Academic Computing Policy and Advisory Committee (ACPAC). Dr. Pagnucci teaches in the English Department’s Graduate Studies in Composition and Applied Linguistics (CAL) Doctoral Program.
Dr. Pagnucci has an extensive list of scholarly publications, including the books Enter the Superheroes: American Values, Culture, and the Canon of Superhero Literature and Living the Narrative Life: Stories as a Tool for Meaning Making. He has also published about strategies for success for new academic chairs in The Department Chair. Dr. Pagnucci has also presented at all the major English conferences, including multiple times at both the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC) and the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Annual Convention. He has been a keynote and invited speaker for many conferences including the national Academic Chairpersons Conference (ACC).
Dr. Pagnucci’s service includes being President of the Pennsylvania College English Association (PCEA). He also served as Vice-President of the Indiana Free Library Board of Directors for nine years.
When he is not chairing or reading graphic novels, Gian is out catching Pokémon. He is a level 49 Pokémon Go player.
